next class to be determined

The Citizen Police Academy is designed to give citizens a better understanding of what police officers do every day. The popular program provides insight into the philosophy, internal values, and operations of the Balch Springs Police Department. The program's ultimate goal is to improve the relationship and rapport between citizens and the Balch Springs Police. The program also gives citizens the opportunity to interact with officers, ask questions, and express any concerns they might have. This two-way communication has proven to be an effective, successful way to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Citizen Police Academy.

The Balch Springs Police Department Citizen Police Academy is a 35-hour block of instruction designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Balch Springs Police Department's personnel and policies. It consists of 13 classes, held once a week at nights, for three hours per class. The instruction is comprehensive, covering a different area of the police department each week. Certified Police Officers, Supervisors, and personnel with particular expertise, in a particular division, conduct each instructional block. There will also be guest instructors in certain areas.

(The Citizens’ Police Academy is NOT an offer of employment, but a volunteer program to educate those respected members of our community, who want to hear information on law enforcement right from the source.)
