Job Related Physical Assessment
The Balch Springs Police Department recognizes the importance of physical fitness as it relates to job performance. The Civil Service Board has approved a physical fitness assessment to be included in the required qualifications for the Balch Springs Police Department.
The Job Related Physical Assessment is given to all candidates who successfully pass the written police entrance examination. This requirement helps to ensure each candidate can perform the rigorous duties and obligations that police officers are called upon to perform.
The Job Related Physical Assessment must be successfully completed within the required time frame.
Candidates must be prepared to participate in the Job Related Physical Assessment on the same day as the written examination. Appropriate clothing and footwear should accompany each candidate. If an applicant cannot or will not participate in the Physical Assessment, he or she will not be allowed to continue in the application process.
Appropriate exercise / workout clothing, including footwear, is required.
Applicant's eligible to take the Job Related Physical Assessment should wear or bring proper clothing suitable for such activity. The Job Related Physical Assessment will be conducted regardless of the weather conditions.
All eligible applicants WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY PRIOR to taking the Job Related Physical Assessment.
The Job Related Physical Assessment is designed to simulate a residential foot pursuit and will consist of the following:
• PUSH A POLICE VEHICLE 40 FEET
• JUMP/CLIMB 2’, 4’,AND 6’ WALLS
• CROSS BALANCE BEAM
• CRAWL THROUGH A CONCRETE DRAIN PIPE
• JUMP/CLIMB 4’ WALL
• CRAWL THROUGH WINDOW
• CROSS MONKEY BARS
• DRAG PRACTICE DUMMY 20’
• RUN TWO LAPS (APPROX ¼ MILE)
• TIME STOPS.
YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS ENTIRE COURSE IN 5 MINUTES OR LESS.
