The Balch Springs Recreation Center, Civic Center, Food Pantry, Library, Senior Center,  Municipal Court and our City Hall offices will be closed to the public, pending further updates. Our employees will still continue to serve the public.

We have a deep concern for the welfare of all of our residents and want you to be aware of valuable community resources. The following is a list of nearby emergency and non-emergency resources to connect individuals and families who are lacking basic needs or those who may be homebound and in need of help. 

Families and Seniors 

Opal J Smith Food Pantry, Balch Springs - Currently open Wednesdays and Thursdays (Drive-thru only from 10 am - 12pm or 3pm -5 pm).  Must provide evidence of: Name, Address, Monthly Household Income, and Date of Birth. *The parking lot is closed off from 12pm-3pm

2-1-1 - The helpline maintains a comprehensive community resource database of services which provide     assistance with health care, employment, educational, legal, housing, counseling, transportation needs,     and much more ● referrals to health and human services agencies, nonprofit and faith-based     organizations, disaster relief resources, and volunteer opportunities

Star Transit -  Currently, trips are limited to essential jobs, healthcare and food for the health, safety and well-being of riders and drivers. This includes trips to the Opal J Smith Food Pantry and to local     retailers for Senior Hour Shopping. Flexibility with day and/or time may be necessary. Book a ride at 877-631-5278.  Schedulers are available Monday – Friday. *To minimize contact between drivers and     riders, fares are not collected at this time.

Schools - Offering meals despite closures.
Dallas ISD: Meals distributed twice a week, (Monday and Thursday 10am and 1 pm) Meals available at most Dallas ISD Middle schools and High Schools INCLUDING:  Spruce H. Grady (9733 Old Seagoville Road | Dallas | TX | 75217), and Comstock E.B (7044 Hodde Street | Dallas | TX | 75217).

Starting April 6th, Dallas ISD will only distribute meals on Thursday from 10 AM to 1 PM.
Mesquite ISD: Providing free curbside meals for all of MISD students (Every Wednesday 10 am - Noon)  Available at all High Schools and all Middle Schools and the following elementary schools: W.O. Gray Elementary (3500 Pioneer Rd. | Balch Springs | TX | 75180), and Henrie Elementary (253 W. Lawson Rd. | Dallas | TX | 75253).

Dallas Agency Area office of Aging (DAAA) - Meals for Seniors (Provides care coordination of Minor Home Repair, Chore Services, Personal Assistance, Health Maintenance, and Income Support)
Call 211 and tell them you need to reach DAAA specifically
