We are proud to announce that our Mayor Carrie Gordon, was asked to serve as a delegate to the League’s “Municipal Policy Summit,” which will meet August 22-23, 2022 at the Hilton Austin (located at 500 East 4th Street). The next regular session of the Texas Legislature, will convene in January 2023. Her experience in municipal government, knowledge of relevant issues, and willingness to participate in this important process is of great value to the League. This year, the committee process that develops the League’s legislative program will come from the delegates to the League’s Municipal Policy Summit. The summit will be an intensive, two-day workshop during which League staff will brief the delegates on the myriad legislative issues faced by cities. Most will be issues that arise each session, but many will consist of issues brought to us by city officials. The League now has a fixed legislative program that remains in place from biennium-to-biennium, until modified by Summit delegates. Regardless of how many changes are necessary, the staff briefing at the Summit serves the additional purpose of educating delegates about how they got where they are and what the future will bring. Any Summit recommendations to change the fixed program will be in the form of a resolution that is submitted for consideration to the TML Business Meeting during the Annual Conference and Exhibition in October. The summit will have a chair, vice-chair, a designated liaison from the TML Board, and a membership made up of both elected and appointed municipal officials. This summit, is essential to developing positions on municipal issues.
