After the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.- President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act) into law. As amended, the Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, religion, or national origin, sex, disability and family status under Title VIII of that law.
Housing discrimination is illegal, and violates the principles of freedom, and opportunity we treasure. Over the last 50 years, our nation has made great strides toward ensuring everyone access to fair and affordable housing free from discrimination. These actions have helped create a more fair and just market for housing.
It is the policy and commitment of the City of Balch Springs to ensure fair and equal housing opportunities are granted to all persons in all housing opportunities and development activities funded by the city. I encourage you to help the City of Balch Springs in supporting our Fair Housing Policy adopted 8/13/18 and endeavors to end housing discrimination. Please share the information/flyers attached. Everyone deserves to live in a safe, comfortable home.
