Firefighter Applicant Information

Thank you for your employment interest as a Firefighter with the City of Balch Springs. This information will provide guidelines regarding the employment process for Firefighter. Keep for your records, no reminders will be sent out after you turn in the application.


The City of Balch Springs is currently accepting Pre-Employment Applications (PDF). All qualified persons must complete and submit an application (email only) to Pam Duyka in the Balch Springs Fire Department, on or before Friday, October 25, 2021. All applications must include the following certificates:
  • Copy of DD214 with an honorable discharge (if applicable)
  • Copy of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Firefighter Certification
  • Copy of Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic or EMT Certification OR a copy of your National Registry


  • Must be at least 18 years of age by test date
  • Must be certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a minimum Basic Firefighter by test date (*Make sure to pay your $85 Certification Fee to TCFP)
  • Must be certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMT or Paramedic by test date (We will accept a copy of the National Registry)
  • Must not have any convictions above a Class B misdemeanor
  • Must not have reached 36 years of age by hire date
  • Must obtain or have the ability to obtain a valid Class B Texas Driver’s licenses

Written Examination

The written exam will be October 30, 2021 at the Civic Center. Registration will begin 7:30a.m. Doors will lock at 8:00a.m. Test will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. All qualified applicants must bring drivers license and social security card. On the same day the physical agility test will be given following the written exam for those who pass the written exam.
