There are 2,876 total confirmed positive COVID-19 cases to date within the City of Balch Springs 

As of February 2nd, officials in Dallas County have confirmed 2,876 total confirmed cases, 287 probable, and 20 deaths within Balch Springs. Dallas County Health and Human Services have confirmed the cases and will be conducting contact tracing on individuals who may have been in contact with these patients. Officials from The City of Balch Springs and Dallas County will continue to monitor the situation. 

We urge everyone to please follow the guidelines. 

  • It is highly recommended NOT to attend large gatherings
  • Vaccine process continues for Tier 1A (Frontline Healthcare workers, Fire and EMS)
  • Vaccine begins for those 65 or older by appointment
  • COVID-19 Testing Site is located at 12400 Elam Rd and is FREE for ALL. Has been extended through January 31st.

CDC Definition of a COVID-19 case - A COVID-19 case includes confirmed and probable cases and deaths. This change was made to reflect an interim COVID-19 position statement issued by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists on April 5, 2020. The position statement included a case definition and made COVID-19 a nationally notifiable disease.

CDC Definition of a COVID-19 probable case - A probable case or death is defined as:

  • A person meeting clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19; 
  • A person meeting presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence; 
  • A person meeting vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19.

City officials continue to urge residents to STAY SAFE while in public and continue to take all precautions to avoid the spread of COVID-19 within the community. 

The following precautions include: 

  • Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water often. If soap and water are not available use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Not attending mass gatherings or crowded areas • Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes with unwashed hands.
  • If at all possible, stay home and make shopping trips that are a brief. Practice social distancing of at least 6ft when going out in public. Stay home if you are sick or have any symptoms of the virus.
  • Wear a cloth face mask. Do NOT use face mask intended for First Responders or Health Care Workers.
  • Clean & disinfect frequently touched objects at home & work, such as door knobs, chairs, sink fixtures, and other areas that come into regular contact with other people. If you are experiencing fever, cough, sore throat, or difficult breathing, contact your health care provider. Be sure to first contact your doctor or health care provider before visiting an emergency room if you are exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

StarTransitFree Rides to All Vaccinated Locations  

 STAR Transit is providing free rides for persons with confirmed appointment to get the COVID 19 vaccine shots.   The curb-to-curb service extends outside of the agency’s service area. Rides are available Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  For this purpose, STAR Transit is temporarily adding Saturday service from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Reservations should be made at least one service day in advance and are based on vehicle availability.  

“STAR Transit understands the reasons why receiving the vaccine is so important for everyone, and we are committed to helping in the best way we can—offering free rides to all persons living and working in our service area,” said Tommy Henricks, Executive Director.

“We are treating this request like we would a medical appointment which means a person within our service area can travel to any vaccination site in our service area including all of Dallas County”, he continued.   

To schedule a free ride, call STAR Transit at least one business day but not more than two weeks in advance of the desired trip.  Scheduling Agents are available during normal business hours Monday-Friday (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) at (877) 631-5278.  Se Habla Español.  For same day service in Terrell, Kaufman, Mesquite and Balch Springs, book through the STARNow app, using the promo code C19VA for the no-fare ride. STAR Transit serves Kaufman County, Rockwall County, Seagoville, Balch Springs, Mesquite, DeSoto and Hutchins.

The Fleet Department continues intense cleaning and sanitizing of all vehicles throughout the day. Drivers have been provided hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, and are equipped with disinfecting spray to use during their shifts.
